School Family Volunteer Hours Requirement
Participating in Catholic School education means acknowledging the value of service to others. Volunteering brings many positive benefits to our community. The community benefits when we serve each other in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, in charitable causes, in the family unit, and in marriage. The willingness to sacrifice for one family member advances the welfare of the others and nurtures family harmony. Close relationships require sacrifice. In fact, many people consider sacrifice to be a fundamental part of what it means to truly love another person, to live as a Christian. St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School believes that this same type of sacrifice is essential to our community, providing hidden benefits that flow from volunteers who offer their time, talent, and treasure for the benefits of others. This is an integral part of charity, and allows a Catholic School to succeed. Therefore, it is mandated that:
All school families are required to volunteer 20 hours per year. This amounts to 2 hours per month during the 10-month school year. Some of the volunteer opportunities include – but are not limited to – the following activities:
School Activities:
- School day assistance, such as cafeteria help, room parents, field trip
- chaperones, or Stewardship Friday
- Extracurriculars, such as gym assistance on game days, theatre production help,
- coaching athletics, or serving on Athletic Committee
- PTO committee - helping to plan or execute events such as Santa Shop,
- Reverse Raffle, or Walkathon
- After school care volunteer
Parish Activities:
- Liturgical ministry- server, lector, Eucharistic minister, greeter, choir
- Church Committees - Men’s Club, Women on a Mission, Young Adult Team, etc.
- Church maintenance or landscaping
- St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry volunteers
- Youth Ministry at St. Anthony or Catalyst Catholic
Volunteer hours will be submitted electronically and each family will receive a quarterly update as to the number of hours fulfilled and remaining.
