Art & Music

Catholic Arts Education originates with the recognition that each of us has the capacity for thinking and living artistically. It is based on the belief that God has endowed each of us with talents and gifts which God expects us to develop and use to the best of our ability. Through our artistic endeavors we become active participants in continuing God’s creation in ourselves and in our society.

Arts Education is an essential part of the school curriculum. It allows the child to express him/herself aesthetically, balancing the intellectual side of the brain with the artistic side of the brain. As a universal language, music and art can be interpreted and understood to some extent by all children.

Through art and music education, teachers and students can come to identify their talents and gifts, and respond to the beauty of God’s world. They can learn to appreciate the creative talents of artists in many places, cultures, and time periods.

I was born and raised in Appleton, Wis., on a dairy farm. I moved to the Kentuckiana area in 1993 because of my husband's job. I have 2 boys, Caleb  and Joshua.

I first started working in the NAFC Schools in special Education at Mt. Tabor Elementary School. In 2010, I began teaching Art at Greenville Elementary School. Because of some life circumstances in 2021, I had to leave my beloved Art position there. I missed it so much! However, I'm very happy to be back to teaching Art again here at St. Anthony's School!

I also work on the side at Kids InterAct Academy in Galena where I lead Art camps during summer, do kids birthday painting parties, and teach drawing.

I'm looking forward to working with all the students this school year and getting to know the families.

Hello! My name is Abby Borders and I am so excited to get to teach music at St. Anthony’s School! I am a Louisville native who started formal piano lessons at age 7 and harp lessons at age 9. I have continued as a pianist and harpist primarily, but enjoy other instruments and appreciate a wide range of experience from folk music to classical and beyond. I enjoy traveling and hiking and taking my two kids on adventures.  I find joy and worship in music. I see all of creation as a beautiful blend of music and art and have found a passion for sharing my personal love for musical expression in giving music to kids as a form of communication and creative energy outlet. My prayer is that music class will be a space where students discover an enjoyment of music that grows roots of joy and hope and faith that can be woven all throughout life’s seasons as I have gratefully experienced in mine!
