May Crowning

May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May. It is a solemn procession and at the close of the procession a statue of the Blessed Virgin is crowned with a garland or crown of flowers honoring Mary as “the Queen of May.” Our 8th graders will continue this tradition on Wednesday, May 1 at the 8:00 AM all school mass. All are welcome to attend.

We are in need of fresh flowers for the procession. Please send in fresh flowers, either from your yard or purchased. We will make bouquets for procession to shower Mary with beautiful flowers. After the Mass, we will bring the flowers back to school and continue to celebrate Mary throughout the month of May. Please send in flowers starting on May 1st.

Our wishes and prayers go to our students who received the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist for the first time this Sunday! This long-awaited day held many treasured memories for our children and their families who helped prepare them throughout the year for this very special occasion. Prayers of gratitude are offered to Ms. Hellinger and Fr. John who worked closely and so well with the children and their families as they prepared for both Penance and Holy Eucharist.

Let us, as a school community, continue to keep these children in our prayers – may this day be for them the first of many meetings with Jesus in the Eucharist and may they continue to grow closer to Our Lord!

Cafeteria REminder

It is important to keep accounts current in the cafeteria. It is important to remember that a regular lunch includes the entrée with fruit, vegetable, and milk. Any extras, such as an additional entrée, extra milk, juice, or water is an extra charge to the child’s account. Lunch bills are sent home weekly, please remember to send in your payment. Students will not be allowed to get extras if the account balance is not kept current, or contains a negative balance. Students will also not be allowed to participate in field trips, field day, or graduation activities if balances are not current. We appreciate your help in this matter.

ILEARN Testing will begin on Monday, April 15 through May 10th for 3rd - 8th Grade. It is imperative that students are present on their testing dates. Please mark your calendars of these testing windows and do everything you can to not schedule appointments, vacations, or other commitments during this time.. Obviously, if your child is sick we want them to stay home and get well. Teachers will send specific dates of testing once a schedule has been set.

Get ready to place your bets on a fun-filled evening! We are ready to run for the roses at our BIGGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR! The evening is filled with lots of fellowship, fun, laughter, gambling and hopefully winning! Come and see what this fundraiser is all about. Our Reverse Raffle is set for Saturday, April 6, with a dance party to follow!

We need YOU , Bear Nation, to be a part of this wonderful event. Get your friends and family together and reserve your dinner tickets today! We would love to fill the Parish Gym with over 300 people! This fundraiser will help raise money for renovating our classrooms. Many of our classrooms are in need of new paint, bookshelves and cabinets.

Order forms are included in the Bear Facts. If you need extra forms, please call the office. Tickets are $30 per person which includes dinner, dancing, and door prize entry. We also have our raffle tickets that can be purchased for $50. We will have our Silent Auction, 50/50 drawing, Treasure Trunks, and more. We hosted our St. Anthony School Spelling Bee on March 10. Each classroom, in grades 4th - 8th had a class spelling bee and a winner was selected. The winners then participated in the School Spelling Bee. We are so proud of all of our spellers! I want to give a huge shout out to all who helped with our spelling bee. We are preparing for an extraordinary celestial event on April 8, 2024: the solar eclipse. The path of the solar eclipse traverses Indiana, and in certain areas, lucky spectators will witness a total solar eclipse. We have designated April 8, 2024 as an Asynchronous Virtual Learning Day. Work will be assigned via Google Classroom or sent home with students on Friday, April 5. Work should be completed and returned on Tuesday, April 9. We hope that you and your family are able to experience this wonderful event.

Holy Week

Holy Week

Holy Week began on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. During this one week, many biblical prophecies were fulfilled. Jesus came to earth to save humanity by dying on the cross on Good Friday and resurrecting on Easter Sunday. I hope your family will join us for the Holy Week Services on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.

On Holy Thursday, our NJHS members will be performing the Silhouette Stations of the Cross. This is a beautiful and powerful way of experiencing the Stations of the Cross. The Silhouette Stations will take place in the church at 1:30.

On Good Friday, we will be asking all students and teachers to show extra reverence and respect. We will be quiet throughout the day and take extra time for prayer. We want to commemorate this solemn day that leads us to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Cottontail Trail Egg-Stravaganza

Cottontail Trail Egg-Stravaganza

The Egg-Stravaganza, organized by the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department, is an enchanting, family-friendly event that celebrates the spirit of Easter and the joys of spring. The Cottontail Trail, our latest inclusion to the festivities, will be staged along the sidewalks and concourse along the Fields at Gateway Park, frequently known as the Little League Fields. This addition uses the concept of the trunk-or-treat (trick or treat) event but is tailored for Easter.

St. Anthony School will be a sponsor along the trail. We will be handing out goodies, make sure to stop by and visit! The event will take place on Saturday, March 30 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

We will be filling Easter Eggs for this event and we need your help! We are asking for donations of Easter Candy. We want the candy to be individually wrapped and will fit in a plastic egg. We will be filling approximately 500 eggs.

Choice Scholarship 2024-2025

2024-2025 Choice Scholarship

St. Anthony School is in the process of applying and submitting the application to be a Choice School for the 2024-2025 school year. It will probably be 4-6 weeks before the DOE approves the application and the process is completed.

We can begin accepting applications for the Choice Scholarship, but will not be able to process them until we have been approved by the state. The application form is included in the Bear Facts and we will also send a paper copy home. Here are some reminders for you when applying for the Choice Scholarship.

Must be an Indiana resident between the ages of 5-22
Student must be in grades K-8
Family must meet the appropriate income eligibility requirement
You must have proof of accurate income for 2023

a. 2023 Federal Income taxes

b. W-2

c. Paycheck stub

d. Disability income

e. Unemployment income

f. Child Support income

g. Proof of any monies from IRA accounts, 401K, or Annuities

If you do not provide the correct information, you could forfeit your eligibility

You must provide the income for anyone living in your household that works or that has an income. This includes grandparents, brothers, sisters (college, high school or grade school students), or any non-relative that are living in your house.
Federal taxes must show correct total of people currently in your house. If not we will need to complete the Household Summary paperwork.
If parents are divorced, child support must be added to income and documentation is needed.
The school will need a copy of divorce papers so that we can tell what arrangements have been made when children are claimed every other year and also tell us why household size does not match the number on your taxes.
If parents alternate years claiming a child, we will need a note written from each parent, signed, and dated to be added to the file for documentation.

Since its formation, Right to Life of Southern Indiana has been dedicated to developing principled and

passionate pro-life leaders among Southern Indiana’s students. Through direct involvement with many

community organizations, Right to Life of Southern Indiana has seen first hand the energetic and

exceptional leadership of pro-life students. In our continued efforts to recognize and develop pro-life leadership and convictions among Southern Indiana’s students, Right to Life of Southern Indiana hosts the 20th Annual Value of Life Contests.

Our 7th and 8th graders took part in this contest and we are pleased to announce our St. Anthony School winners. Thank you to Mrs. Huber for guiding our students through this contest process.

We want to take this opportunity to shout out St. Anthony School and our 2023 IREAD-3 scores. The State of Indiana recognized St. Anthony School along with other schools from around the state for outstanding achievement on IREAD-3 scores for 2023. St. Anthony was one of the 241 schools out of 1,366 elementary schools that achieved 95% or higher pass rate on the 2023 IREAD-3 State Assessment. Thanks to our teachers and students for their hard work and dedication!

Lenten SEason

Today we embark together on a journey through Lent. It is a time for self-discovery as we remember how Jesus went into the desert for forty days and was tempted by the devil. During our Lenten experience, we pray more, eat less, and give to the poor to prepare ourselves for what is at the heart of our Christian faith - Christ’s Resurrection at Easter! But we must make ready our hearts and minds, like an athlete trains for a key game or race. We need to strengthen our good habits as we remain God’s sons and daughters through the waters of Baptism.

Each year, on Ash Wednesday, Catholics are marked with ashes in the sign of the cross as a reminder that we are entering into Lent. This ashen sign reminds us of our humanness, and that sometimes we fail. We need God’s help to succeed.

Hip Hip Hooray! It is the 100th day of School! Our 100th day of school will be on Thursday, January 18. We have a couple of ways your child can help us celebrate this wonderful day. We invite students to dress up like they are 100 years old. Get creative with glasses, hair, outfits and more. Or they can wear a shirt with 100 of something on them, like safety pins, buttons, or fuzzy balls. Again be creative, the internet has tons of ideas. If your child prefers not to participate, they can wear their uniform on this day.

2024-2025 Pre-Registration Form

It is hard to believe we are making preparations for the next school year. We anticipate that our enrollment will continue to increase next school year. We already have many new families interested in SAS for next year. It is important to turn in your Pre-Registration form and fee in a timely manner to ensure your child is included in our enrollment for next year This also helps us to plan the budget for the upcoming year, as well as class sizes and number of teachers needed. Current families risk being put on a waiting list if the Pre-Registration form is not returned by the deadline!

The registration fee of $75 per student AND the registration form is due by January 26, 2024. After January 26th, the registration fee will increase to $100. The registration fee is non-refundable. After January 26, we will also open registration for new families.

On the appropriate line of the Pre-Registration Form, write the names of your children who will be attending Saint Anthony School for the 2024-2025 school year. You may also complete the online form and send your fee into the office.

Christmas Break

Christmas break will be here before we know it. We will dismiss at 1:00 on December 19. There will be NO after school care on this day. It is very important that you plan accordingly for pick up on this day. School will resume on January 4, 2024.

Also, students may wear a Christmas/Festive shirt, ugly Christmas Sweater, or a red/green shirt with jeans or sweats. Classrooms will have an early brunch and will have their classroom Christmas parties.

Thank you to all those who donated to our Bags of Blessings. Our 2nd grade class did an excellent job with this project and we were able to help out our local food pantry. Our school collected over 360 items for the food pantry. I also want to thank Jamie and Ally Huber and Ms. Hellinger for their help with the project. I also want to thank our 7th graders for helping to deliver the items to the food pantry.

Wow!!!! What an amazing performance by the cast and crew of Disney’s Newsies Jr. We definitely have a very talented group of kiddos here at SAS. I want to give a huge shout out to Mr. Jamie Huber for stepping into the role of the director of the play. Mr. Huber put together a wonderful show, worked well with the kids, and made it look really easy for his first time! I love that our students have the opportunity to share their gifts and talents with our school community. It really takes a village to run a theater program and I appreciate everyone who came together to make this play happen!

A production this great takes a team. I can't thank everyone who helped enough!

During this season of thanks and giving, our 2nd graders invite you to participate in a school-wide activity. Families are asked to read the Bags of Blessings story, discuss the blessings they have, and give thanks to God. Then families are asked to pick out food to share with those who are hungry. They can write a fun, loving, cheerful note on the food. The food can be brought to school on November 17, 20, and 21. We will donate the food to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry here at St. Anthony Parish.

I am in the process of finalizing the School Calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. I know that now is the time that many start to plan vacations for the next year. Our 8th graders had such a great visit to our Nation’s Capital. The students gained a wealth of knowledge, created an amazing bond as a class, shared much laughter, and have memories that will last a lifetime. We want to thank our parents for allowing their children to have this amazing experience. 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip

Our 8th graders are traveling to Washington DC today and will visiting until Friday. Please pray for them as they travel to our Nation’s Capital. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to bond as a class and to gain a wealth of knowledge. We appreciate our 8th grade parents for allowing their children to participate in the trip and we want to thank our teacher chaperones for attending the trip. We also sincerely appreciate our many donors who donated to our trip.

On April 8, 2024, Indiana will experience a total eclipse of the sun. The incredible occurrence will draw millions of tourists from around the nation to our state. Every part of our state will experience either 100% totality or 90% totality, allowing everyone to witness this incredible event.

This event is the perfect opportunity to make history. Whether you choose to attend one of the many events planned across the state or plan your own viewing parties, you’ll be making memories that will last a lifetime.

Due to this event, we have made a change in the calendar for this year. On April 8, 2024, we will have an e-Learning day. Teachers will send work home with students the Friday before April 8th. Please mark your calendar and plan accordingly.

We will be having our Parent Teacher Conferences October 3rd and 4th. On October 3rd, conferences can be scheduled from 1:00-7:00. On October 4th, conferences will be scheduled from 3:00-5:00. It is very important that parents attend conferences. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and behavior in the classroom. School Picture Day 2003-2004

School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 7th for all grades. We will again use Inter-State Studio this year for our school pictures. Order forms will be coming home today. Education Matters!

As parents, you have the responsibility to make school a #1 priority for your child. By making sure your child is in school every day, you ensure his or her opportunity to learn. Research indicates that when parents actively participate in their child's education, the quality of learning improves. Such participation also improves student test scores and creates an atmosphere that enhances student success. Work missed during absences is difficult to make up because there is no substitute for active participation in daily classroom discussion and work.

One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from his/her parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. This skill can easily be accomplished and will transfer as a valuable asset for the future. One of the most important times of the school day is the morning. This is a time for students to prepare for the day. Students can miss valuable instruction time by being late in the morning. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day. Please help support your children in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life.

It is very important that our school families make education a top priority. Please know that we will be monitoring attendance very closely. You can find the consequences for excessive absences and tardies in the school handbook.

The school is also working closely with all SAS Extracurricular Activities to ensure that education is our top priority. If a child has an issue with attendance, work habits, and/or behavior, then they will also have consequences.

Once again, we will be using Power School for our grading system. If you had a PowerSchool account last year, you should use the same username and password to access your account. If you are new to PowerSchool, I will be sending home directions to log in to PowerSchool. If you need help accessing PowerSchool, please contact Mrs. Tucker. The PowerSchool App is also very user friendly. If you are registering for the first time, you will need the our code which is TMHH.

The Choice Scholarship Application deadline is September 1st. If you have not submitted your paperwork for Choice, you need to do so as soon as possible. The tuition invoice that was sent home will reflect if the Choice Scholarship was approved.

As you know the security and safety of our St. Anthony Community is a top priority. Throughout the summer, I collaborated with the Clarksville Police Department to discuss security and safety protocols. One initiative by the department was to have all Clarksville officers walk through the school building and become familiar with the layout. I also met with Chief Palmer and Captain Wells to see how we can work together throughout the school year to continue to keep our school safe and to build a relationship with the department and the officers. Our goal is to have officers be present at different times during the school day and to all be present at school events. Please don’t be alarmed if you see officers around the building. I can assure you, you will receive notification if there is an emergency.

1st – 8th Parent Orientation

We will have our Parent Orientation on Wednesday, August 9. We will have 2 sessions, our first session will begin at 6:30 and our second session will begin at 7:05. Doors will open at 6:20PM. The Orientation is for parents only. Parents will meet in their child’s classroom and learn about daily routines, expectations, and academics. 7th and 8th grade parents will meet in the cafeteria. It is very important that parents attend this meeting.

"Many hands make light work!" Several months ago, Cindy Collins worked hard on the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Growth & Expansion Grant. We were thrilled to learn that we were awarded the full amount! We have been hard at work clearing out the library to make room for our new STEM Lab/Library Center.
